About the role

The Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) is transforming vocational education by delivering innovative, industry-aligned training that prepares students for the jobs of tomorrow. We are seeking passionate and experienced educators to join our team as Casual Teachers across a range of specialist areas.

As a Casual Teacher, you will design and deliver engaging learning experiences that enable students to achieve their goals. You will prepare and deliver online lessons, assess student progress, and maintain compliance with organisational standards. You’ll also collaborate with industry and community stakeholders to ensure training remains relevant and responsive to emerging needs.  Please note, casual teaching hours are ad-hoc and there is no guarantee of regular or ongoing work.

About You 

You are an experienced professional with strong subject knowledge and vocational qualifications in a construction discipline, complemented by at least three years of recent industry experience. Your ability to communicate effectively across diverse educational and industry settings, combined with excellent organisational skills, ensures you can create a positive and productive learning environment. You thrive in collaborative settings, demonstrate a strong customer service ethos, and possess problem-solving skills that support change and innovation.

To be successful in the role you will:

  1. Hold a minimum Certificate IV in a relevant qualification for the discipline you are applying for.
  2. Have a minimum of three years post-qualification experience in industry relevant to your qualifications, gained no longer than five years previously.
  3. Be prepared to continue to develop their Vocational Education and Training (VET) knowledge and skills as well as their industry currency and trainer/assessor competence.
  4. High level written and oral communication skills in English and proven ability to communicate effectively in a wide range of educational, industrial or community environments.
  5. Commitment and ability to facilitate learning in an adult environment and demonstrated organisational skills applicable to an educational setting.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and demonstrated ability to contribute in a team environment.
  7. Proven strengths in problem solving and change management.
